Nomination Title: Blanca Treviño, President and CEO, Softtek
Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):
Under Blanca’s leadership, Softtek has become a global provider of IT and business process solutions with nearly 6,000 associates across 30 offices in North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. As one of the five founders of the company, Blanca has demonstrated her talent not only through Softtek’s growth in human capital but also in fomenting a successful global business. 2010 has been a particularly special year for Blanca, marking her 10th anniversary as one of Latin America’s (and the world’s) few female technology Chief Executive Officers.
Over this past year, Blanca has won numerous awards for her work at Softtek. In March 2010, the Latin Business Chronicle selected Blanca as one of their Top 25 Businesswomen. One month later, Softtek was voted as the Highest Ranking Latin American Company on IAOP’s 2010 Global Outsourcing 100 List. What’s more, Blanca was the highest ranking female CEO out of all top IT services companies ranked by IAOP led by a woman. In June 2010, Nearshore Americas, the only independent news blog focused on the outsourcing industry, named Blanca the 2nd Most Influential Executive for Nearshore Outsourcing on its Power 50 Report.
Cited as a reputable source on global IT services in Latin America, Blanca has been interviewed by various Spanish-language and English-language publications. In March 2010, Blanca was quoted in The New York Times’ The Female Factor section for an article focusing on Risk and Opportunity for Women in the 21st Century. It is quite uncommon for women to hold such a high position, especially in the IT industry in Mexico. However, Blanca has broken down those barriers and is now seen as a force to be reckoned with.
In addition to The New York Times article, Blanca was featured in an exclusive interview with Nearshore Americas. Blanca has also been featured in such Spanish-language publications as CNN Expansión and El Norte.
At a time when the economy has affected all global corporations, Blanca has led Softtek in its expansion to other parts of the globe. In July 2009, Softtek opened its second Global Delivery Center in China, marking Softtek the only Latin American IT company in China. Blanca has also led Softtek in expansions internally, pioneering the implementation of the Human Element into Softtek’s HR initiatives. Through this initiative, Softtek saw that the more employee openness, self-determination and self-perception were strengthened —the better the company’s work processes became with clients and its own associates. Moreover, Sofftek has maintained the highest growth index for a Latin American company through using this philosophy. (The company’s growth index is more comparable to companies in India than those in Latin America.)
In addition to her focus on her business and family, Blanca has been involved in many charities and organizations throughout Mexico. Blanca serves as a board member for various organizations and universities, including Wal-Mart Mexico, The United States – Mexico Foundation for Science, University of Monterrey, and TecMilenio University. Furthermore, Blanca has been a keynote speaker in events from Kellogg, Harvard and TEC. She is also an adviser to the Government of Nuevo Leon, her home state in Mexico.
