Nomination Title: Heidi W. Gerding, President & CEO

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated entrepreneur during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):

Heidi W. Gerding is the President & CEO of HeiTech Services, Inc., a
solutions-driven government contracting firm specializing in information
technology, management consulting and program services. Heidi co-founded
HeiTech Services, Inc. in October 1999. Under her leadership, the company has
experienced exponential growth in terms of employee count, revenue, corporate
office space and regional presence. Today, HeiTech Services provides technical
and operational support to twelve federal agencies located across seven states
and in Washington, DC. HeiTech Services is a woman and “verified”
service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB), certified by the Small
Business Administration (SBA) as a small disadvantaged business.

The award period signified an era of enthusiasm, change, and growth for HeiTech
Services with Heidi firmly at the helm. In this time, Heidi revamped the
corporate structure, cultivated key strategic business relationships and
promoted employee growth to new levels. HeiTech Services elevated to $41M
business (2009 revenues) with over 500 employees and more than 23,000 square
feet of office space.

This past year, HeiTech Services celebrated two key milestones. The firm
graduated from SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program in late August. The 8(a)
program positions companies to more successfully participate in full & open
competition for federal business. HeiTech Services also celebrated ten years in
business this past October. To effectively manage HeiTech’s evolution from a
small to medium size business, Heidi developed and implemented a C-suite
organization. Heidi identified and recruited a reputable group of senior
leaders to work closely with her and Executive Vice President James Clement in
executing the company’s vision and mission.

Having the opportunity to be formally mentored by a larger firm, Heidi quickly
realized the value and importance of mentor-protégé relationships. This year,
for the first time, Heidi positioned HeiTech Services in a mentoring role to a
fellow SDVOSB. The opportunity provided the company to share best practices,
industry experiences, allowed both firms to strengthen the strategic business
relationship and positioned HeiTech Services to support the development and
maturity of a younger firm.

As a business leader and advocate of small business enterprise, Heidi takes on
an active role in the small business community. Heidi frequently speaks at
small business conferences and outreach events to share the insight and
knowledge she has gained as an entrepreneur in the federal contracting industry.
Her speeches are purposeful and often stand out for audience members. In her
speeches, Heidi regularly shares strategies, stories and “secrets to success”,
information that many companies consider proprietary or sensitive.

Heidi formulated a plan to promote employee growth at HeiTech Services during
the award period. She understands that as a services organization, the
employees are the company’s greatest asset. Heidi implemented an employee
training and certification program to support clients’ ever-changing needs and
promote employee advancement. This year, the program encompassed multiple
training initiatives. Several top managers throughout the company attended
conferences and training. Most recently, nearly 65 employees were enrolled in
project management training courses in preparation of earning credentials from
the Project Management Institute.

Heidi’s leadership efforts have been rewarded with steady growth, industry
recognition, and customer appreciation. In the award period, HeiTech Services
achieved growth rates in terms of revenue, employee count, and office space
square footage of 70%, 20% and 28% respectively.

Heidi was this year recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year
award winner in Maryland due to her desire to move the business to new heights.
The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading
dynamic, growing businesses.

Heidi’s proven entrepreneurial and business accomplishments have also been
recognized by business owners and organizations. Heidi serves as an Advisory
Board Member for FedMine, is on the Board of Directors for Coffey & Company,
Inc., and is Vice President on the Board of Directors for the National Veterans’
Small Business Coalition.

Today, with Heidi’s innovative leadership tactics, a core management team in
place, dedicated employee base, and outstanding track record of customer
service, HeiTech Services is well positioned to achieve Heidi’s challenging, yet
attainable future corporate growth goals.
