The U.S. Government Printing Office(GPO)has been producing the documents of our democracy since March 4, 1861. GPO achieved numerous milestones in 2009. GPO is playing a key role in developing open and transparent government inititatives for the Obama Administration. After five years of research and development, the agency launched GPO's Federal Digital System, which is a one-stop site to authentic, published government information. Any member of the public can go to www.fdsys.gov and search for government documents. After six months, the site was named one of the best websites in the government. GPO printed the official Inaugural materials for the President's Inauguration, the first ever offical digital photograph of the President and Vice President, The Congressional Record on 100% recycled paper (an accomplishment recognized by Speaker Nancy Pelosi), the federal budget, the nation's passports and Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) cards for the Department of Homeland Security. The TTP was recognized as one of the best border security programs and mentioned on CNN. GPO is a $1billion a year operation and one of the world's largest information facilities in the world.

Bob Tapella is the Public Printer of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Printing Office, which is a $1billion a year business. Tapella was nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Prior to becoming Public Printer, he severed for five years as a senior GPO executive. Tapella has more than a decade of Capitol Hill experience. A California native, he is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
