The video you’re about to see was produced by a Muzak employee to commemorate
Summer Jam, a music event created by and for Muzak employees. In the fall of
2006, Muzak set out to accomplish several goals that were and continue to be
very important to our company. Muzak is fortunate to enjoy an incredibly
unique corporate culture, one that is deeply rooted in and passionate about
music. Music plays throughout our building every day, our staff includes
literally hundreds of talented musicians, and music is the medium we use to
create experiences for our clients. With that in mind, we began to envision an
event that would showcase and celebrate the amazing musical talents of our
employees; involve employees in every aspect of the event concept, planning,
and execution; and allow employees’ families to get in on the fun. That vision
became Summer Jam, an outdoor festival of music featuring 80 Muzak musicians in
    24 performances over a five-hour period.

In preparation for Summer Jam, we treated the event as promoters would a high
profile concert. Every employee in our Home Office received tickets for
themselves and their families. Posters were placed throughout our building and
our Intranet site featured a daily countdown to the event date. On the Friday
before Summer Jam, our Home Office music program was studded with performances
by Summer Jam artists. We also held a “mini-concert” that day, with live
acoustic performances by a few Summer Jam performers.

The culminating event really was a festival of music and fun. Held in a
lakeside park on a late summer’s day, employees and their families enjoyed
kids’ games, a BBQ prepared and served by Muzak executives, horseshoes,
basketball, swimming, boating and lots of great prizes. A huge flatbed truck
outfitted with a state-of-the-art sound system helped the employee performances
sound amazing. Employees and a few special guest musicians came from across
the country to participate, and the show rocked non-stop for more than five
hours — with jazz, rock, hip-hop, blues and every genre imaginable. The music
was tremendous, and the constant sound of cheers said it all.

Altogether, more than 1,400 employees and family members turned out for Summer
Jam and are already buzzing about next year’s event. Muzak CEO Steve Villa
summed it up by saying: “When we first decided to move forward with Summer Jam,
we had no idea it would create this level of positive impact with our
employees. This is our way to truly recognize our talented and deserving
employees, in a way that’s fun for them and their families and celebrates music—
the heart and soul of our company. As they say in the music industry, Summer
    Jam was a smash hit.”
