Nomination Title: Kristin Luck, Founder, Women in Research (WIRe)

Describe for the judges the nominated individual's activities and accomplishments that provided support and assistance to other women since the beginning of July last year (up to 500 words):

A leader in her industry and a champion of women in technology, Kristin Luck currently serves as president of innovative market research firm, Decipher. Working tirelessly over the past 15 years to bring new methods to the mainstream, Kristin continuously pushes the envelope to create products, solutions and methods that benefit her industry. In fact, Kristin was an original pioneer in the multi-media online research business, co-founding the fastest growing research company in the world in the early 2000s before starting her own consulting firm in 2006.

In the spirit of empowering other women in her field, Luck founded WIRe (Women in Research), a networking group to help women in their pursuit of leadership, entrepreneurship and career development goals. WIRe began as a group of less than 20 women in Los Angeles to a group of more than 300 spanning the globe in cities such as Los Angeles, New York and London. WIRe vents in major cities are held quarterly.

In 2012, Kristin launched WIRe’s first industry wide mentoring program for women. WIRe enjoys a diverse membership of seasoned professionals and the mentoring program matches them with women new(er) to market research. Some features of this program:

•A mentoring committee matches mentors/mentees based on goals, interests, experience and location

•Women are matched for 6 months to one year and the pairs are expected to meet and have contact for a specified number of hours/frequency

•Mentees leverage the success of mentors, while mentors have an opportunity to grow their leadership and mentoring skills in a one-on-one environment

•Quarterly events provide a structured opportunity for women to come together to meet face to face

In addition, Kristin’s commitment to bettering and advancing the market research industry for women is evident through board memberships, active involvement and membership in multiple industry associations, including: Advertising Research Foundation (ARF), Marketing Research Association (MRA), ESOMAR, Mobile Market Research Association (MMRA) and many more.

Luck has made impactful contributions to several community service organizations including: Step Up Women’s Network (LA chapter- Luminary Member); Habitat for Humanity; Oregon Natural Desert Association volunteer; Future Business Leaders of America (FLBA) Alumni Board Member and national competition judge. She also recently developed a unique social media giving program for Decipher where a charity is selected each month by an employee, client or partner, and every new fan on social media equals a donation amount to the charity. In the last year, the program gave more than $12,000 back to important causes.

Luck has been recognized nationally and locally as a recipient of the Best in Biz Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Portland Business Journal Forty Under 40 Award, the American Marketing Association’s 4 Under 40 Award, the Central Oregon Accomplished Under 40 Award and as a finalist for the 2010 International Stevie Award for Women in Business.
