FEED began in 2006 when acclaimed model and activist Lauren Bush designed a bag to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) School Feeding program. As a WFP Honorary Student Spokesperson, Lauren visited countries around the world in Asia, Latin America, and Africa where WFP is operating and was inspired by the plight of the people she met on her travels.

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):

The FEED Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to ensure nutritious school meals for all children as a first step to improving the global food system. In partnership with FEED Projects, LLC, the FEED Foundation has provided over 50 million school meals to children in the developing world through the United Nations World Food Program school feeding operations.

Inc Magazine featured Lauren Bush as part of their 30 under 30 list of exciting and innovative young entrepreneurs in July 2010.

September 2010 a high end version of the FEED Bag debuted at Bergdorf Goodman. Sales will benefit the local garment industry because each bag is made right there in New York City. This is the first in a series to help raise money to feed people right here at home in the US.

As of October 2011 the FEED Foundation has provided 64,980,525 meals by selling 555,200 bags and other products listed on their website. This numbers climbs rapidly as the internet’s 24 hour a day open for business attitude and with the help of social media.

FEED products can be purchased online via their own website as well as many high end retailers as Bergdorf Goodman, GAP, Barnes and Noble, Whole Foods and Amazon.com

Lauren Bush came up with the idea of a FEED bag while in college at Princeton University. She met Ellen Gustafson, who was working at the UN World Food Program, and they decided to start a small company to sell FEED bags to feed the children of the world. Intended as a fundraiser for the UN World Food Program, FEED Projects has grown rapidly in its years of existence. FEED bags have been supported by many different celebrities including Marcia Cross, Ali Larter, and Elizabeth Berkley.

Ellen Gustafson and Lauren Bush also co-founded the FEED Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit with the mission of raising awareness and funds to ensure nutritious school meals for all children as a first step toward improving the global food system.
