Nellie serves as Accenture's Global Inclusion & Diversity Executive reporting to the global Managing Director of Human Capital & Diversity. Nellie is a driving force behind Accenture’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. The program's mission is to optimize the company’s ability to fulfill its vision of creating and maintaining an environment rich in diversity. Nellie leads a team of 10 people who are based in India, Europe and the U.S. Nellie and her team are responsible for recent innovations such as creating a career development program for high performing women globally; designing career progression initiatives for Latin Americans seeking opportunities in Spain, as well as for women in Japan, India and Latin America; increasing “minority” opportunities in South Africa; and leading Accenture’s involvement in International Women's Day, a U.N.-sponsored event, in all 49 countries in which Accenture does business. As part of her work she manages million dollar plus budgets.
Nellie’s long-term success is that she elevated the Diversity focus to a quantifiable business imperative. She has taken her message to the CEO’s office and the Board of Directors.
She has received numerous awards, among them: 2000 National Society of Hispanic MBA's Individual Corporate Executive Award; 1999 National Management Consulting Diversity Achievement Award; 1999 ASPIRA Circle of Achievers Award. Nellie has served as the Chairperson for the ASPIRA Mentoring Program.
Nellie has shared her perspectives and beliefs in publications such as Forbes, Management Consulting Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Diversity Inc., Diversity Careers in IT & Engineering, Black Enterprise, Hispanic Engineering, and has been a guest on National Public Radio. She was also featured in the 2003 PBS documentary “Newyoricans,” speaking of her desire to succeed in corporate America while maintaining her strong culture. Nellie is a sought after speaker with inspirational impact who brings wisdom, experience and awareness to topics including best practices in diversity initiatives, development and advancement of women globally, and ethnic minorities in the U.S., U.K. and South Africa. She has served as a speaker and panelist at events including Catalyst, SHPE and ASPIRA. Nellie also consults with Accenture clients across various industries who want advice and insight about starting or enhancing diversity programs.
Nellie Borrero joined Accenture as a consultant in 1986, recognized the need to increase women and minority representation within the organization and put forth a business case, leading to the company’s first full-time role for Diversity efforts in 1993. She became deeply committed to exposing women, Latinos, African Americans and other minority groups to the consulting industry. Nellie advocated to expand recruiting efforts to broaden the pool of candidates and tailored programs for Hispanic Serving Institutions, Society of Hispanic Engineers, and National Society of Hispanic MBAs. Nellie Borrero joined Accenture as a consultant in 1986. Recognizing a need to increase women and minority representation, she immediately put forth a business case and created the company’s first full-time role for Diversity efforts in 1993. Nellie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree after attending New York University and Lehman College. Nellie is married and has two children, Family is extremely important to Nellie. Her biggest joy is gathering her immediate and extended family for holidays and birthdays. Her parents and sister are a huge part of her life. She also enjoys reading, playing tennis and travel.
