Nomination Title: Kelly Wenzel, Chief Marketing Officer, Tideway
1. Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated executive during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):
Kelly Wenzel joined Tideway in September, 2007 as Chief Marketing Officer. In this position she became the head of a newly appointed global marketing team consisting of in-house marketing experts and both American and UK Public Relations agencies. Within two months of her appointment Kelly oversaw the global rollout of a new version of Tideway’s flagship product, Tideway Foundation. The integrated product launch received extensive attention from press and industry analysts alike, and Tideway’s year-end results revealed unprecedented growth and nearly double year-on-year profits. In April, 2008 Tideway announced the completion of a $27 million Series C round of financing led by new investor Scottish Equity Partners (SEP). This accomplishment came on the heels of a number of significant new customer acquisitions across a range of verticals, including financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and government. Kelly’s comprehensive customer relationship management was instrumental in Tideway’s success, contributing to both company and customer base growth that helped the company close their C round of funding. Her ongoing work in customer relationship management has allowed her marketing team to successfully leverage Tideway customer initiatives and create integrated marketing campaigns that result in positive publicity for both Tideway and its clients. Since her start at Tideway, Kelly has always been at the helm of cultivating the relationships that make this kind of awareness and company growth possible.
Kelly’s measurable impact is also clearly reflected in the accolades received by Tideway. Since she joined Tideway, the company has twice been named Britain’s fastest growing software company by the Sunday Times Tech Track, and has also been recognized with industry awards from Computing, the British Computing Society, and Red Herring, among others.
A CMO sits at the hub of an organization’s sales, communications, product management, and engineering activity, and as the connector of so many disciplines must be an unwavering leader focused on what is best for the business when mediating between diverse internal stakeholders.
Kelly embodies the evolving role of the CMO. As the only woman on Tideway’s executive team, she strikes an artful balance between personas: one that lives peacefully and mindfully through yoga and meditation, and one that is an unbending force of change, driving alignment and evolution within the business. Kelly possesses a rare talent for cultivating and leading global teams that drive critical disciplines in fast-paced, high growth environments and ensuring the corporate vision is always of paramount concern.
