In celebration of our tenth anniversary and to highlight the impact of
philanthropy in society, National Philanthropic Trust published of A Chronological History of
Philanthropy in the United States. Our compilation, a fraction of the historical
references we’ve identified, traces the seminal events in the history of
philanthropy from the 1600s until the present day. This work is a dynamic project and we plan
to make additions to it on a regular basis. Both National Philanthropic Trust and
suggestions we receive from the public will be a part of a comprehensive,
searchable website we intend to launch later this year.
