In 2010, ushered in the next paradigm for enterprise cloud computing, Cloud 2, which is social, mobile, and open. The Cloud 2 era moves beyond the original low-cost, fast and easy-to-use identity of cloud computing to a desktop-less world that is about status updates, feeds and profiles running on new mobile devices like the iPad 2, enabling people to realize success in exciting new ways.

Twelve years ago, when Marc Benioff first founded, he posed the question: “Why isn’t all enterprise software like” Since executing on that vision in 1999, delivered an innovative suite of products and a dynamic new business model to its more than 92,300 customers, leading an information technology revolution called cloud computing.

In 2010, Benioff posed a new question: “Why isn’t all enterprise software like Facebook?” as led the charge to Cloud 2 with the industry’s first enterprise social collaboration app and platform, Salesforce Chatter. With Chatter, enterprises can create a secure corporate social network.

Leveraging the social features popularized by Facebook and Twitter – such as profiles, status updates and real-time feeds – Chatter lets employees “follow” documents, people, business processes and application data. Most important to developers, Chatter is built on top of the platform, and allows any company to develop and deploy custom-built social applications.

The company also continued to demonstrate why its application development platform is the proven path to success with Cloud 2 through new innovations to the platform. With new capabilities, developers can create custom social apps on open platforms five times faster than building on traditional software platforms. More than 92,300 customers now use the platform and run 185,000 custom apps on it, creating an entire Cloud 2 ecosystem. With this momentum, expanded the path to the cloud for developers and CIOs by opening up platform services with:
• VMforce – the world’s first enterprise Java cloud and the fastest path for Java developers to the cloud.
• Heroku – acquired Heroku to provide developers the fastest path to build and deploy Ruby apps in the cloud.
• –the world’s first enterprise database built for the cloud that is open for any language, open to any platform and open to any device.

And most recently, the company built upon its flagship CRM solution with the announcement of Service Cloud 3, the next generation of social contact centers that allows companies to monitor and capture conversations about their brands on Facebook and Twitter, and use Radian6 for Salesforce to monitor blogs, forums and discussion groups.

Through its commitment to leadership and innovation in the industry, is on track to being the first enterprise cloud computing company to report more than $2 billion in revenue. The company was also named one of the fastest growing companies in the world by Fortune (#4) in 2010 and one of the fastest growing tech companies in America by Forbes (#8) in 2011.
