Pratik’s leadership has been instrumental in helping Wipro grow from a revenue of $475M & ~10,000 employees in 2001, to a $5 Billion & 95,000 people global corporation in 2009. He joined Wipro in 1991, when Wipro was an India based IT company, and is one of the key leaders who enabled the company’s transformation to a Top 10 Global Outsourcing company. Pratik brings with him a fine blend of business appreciation and people sensitivity. As a result he has the ability to look at problems holistically and come up with win-win solutions. His ability to assess and develop talent has led to Wipro being recognized as one of the top companies for leadership. Pratik has been at the forefront of several innovative initiatives at Wipro. To address the shortage of talent in the IT industry in the mid 90’s, the company developed the Wipro Academy of Software Excellence- a work while you learn program. Undergrads were hired into the company and got training and a Master’s degree from a top university, while working on projects. This program won the Best practice Award in the area of Corporate/College partnership from Corporate University Xchange, and is a flagship talent source for Wipro. A more recent initiative is Mission 10X, which aims to promote systematic changes in engineering education, by collaborating with Academia to enhance the employability of graduating engineers. It involves a layered set of capability building workshops with academia. He is on a constant lookout for raising the bar for the HR team by adopting processes from other disciplines – including applying Six Sigma principles for improving HR process efficiency or Customer Centricity to drive a stronger culture of internal customer orientation. Being in a technology company, Pratik was an early adopter and leveraged Web 2.0 & 3.0 technologies to effectively engage and build a collaborative workplace. An active blogger on the Wipro intranet, Pratik also holds regular employee webchats. As a member of the Human Resources Team at Wipro for the past 17 years, Pratik Kumar has been closely associated with Wipro’s growth and has played a significant role in shaping it into a strong global player known for its HR best practices. Being part of an industry that is highly people intensive, Pratik and his team of HR professionals have architected Wipro on a strong base of competencies, with the Wipro Competency Framework becoming a key vitalizing source for talent management. As an HR practitioner with over 20 years of experience, Pratik has experience in a variety of areas in Human Resources. Currently as HR leader at Wipro, his key mandate is to ensure Wipro’s success and growth through best in class HR Practices. Pratik represents Wipro as the Executive Council Member of NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) and is on the Board of National HRD Network.
