In 1998 Nextel Mexico successfully began its operations in the country by providing unique push-to-talk communications solutions and its unique Direct Connect® and International Direct Connect® to clients in the corporate sector. Since then, Nextel Mexico has expanded its offerings across industries and geography throughout the country, growing its customer base to over 2.1 million users in over 60 cities nationwide under the leadership of Peter Foyo, President of Nextel Mexico. 2007 was another milestone year for Nextel Mexico with Foyo at the forefront of the company’s operational accomplishments. In the past year, he has driven Nextel Mexico to record-breaking levels of growth and sustained profitability, positioning Nextel Mexico toward a future of long-term growth and increased value.
Foyo’s diligence generated solid overall results for Nextel Mexico in 2007, both in subscriber growth which totaled almost 600,000 subscriber additions to its network, and in segment earnings totaling over $676 million. Additionally, Nextel Mexico generated revenue of $1.8 billion, up 34% over 2006, driven by strong subscriber growth and the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of $74 for the year. These exceptional results were primarily achieved by focusing on all the differentiating features of Nextel’s products and services.
At the same time, Nextel Mexico’s leading position in the telecommunications sector was driven by the company’s unmatched level of customer service, its attractive value per minute, and the instant nature of the Direct Connect® product, which is the gold standard for push-to-talk.
While competition in the Mexican telecom market has intensified, Foyo has remained true to the company’s strategy of pursuing profitable growth, always taking the necessary steps to improve Nextel’s position, such as enhanced rate plans and improved competitiveness by driving more minutes of use to the Direct Connect® network, which provides an even more valuable service for subscribers.
Nextel Mexico’s outstanding performance for 2007 is a testament to Foyo’s undisputed ability to lead a company where operational excellence translates successfully into both added-value for clients in products and services, and added shareholder value for its parent company, NII Holdings, Inc.
The achievements garnered under Foyo’s leadership were recognized by Mundo Ejecutivo Magazine, one of the leading business publications in Mexico, in which he was ranked as a top business executive in the market. As a company, Nextel Mexico has also been recognized by other top-tier publications in the country including a Best Company ranking in Expansion Magazine’s Top 500 and Latin Trade Magazine’s Top 500 in Latin America ranking.
Additionally, the results from 2007 have laid the groundwork for Nextel Mexico to invest in an expanded network that will allow the company to offer new products and services to its existing customers, as well as reach a new sector of potential clients, thus demonstrating Foyo’s award-worthy performance.
2007 was a great year for Nextel Mexico, and with Peter Foyo at the company’s helm 2008 promises to be an even better year for growth and profitability. For these reasons, Foyo is an excellent candidate for the Executive of the Year Award!
