Nomination Title: HR Innovation for the Midsize Global Enterprise

   1. Tell the story about what this nominated company achieved (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Historically, the word “global” was synonymous with big, and global companies
were among the most well-known in the world.  Those companies, with vast
resources, deep pockets and thousands of employees (sometimes in hundreds of
worldwide offices) had the luxury of managing global workforces through
installed HR software systems as they had the money to purchase, the IT
staffing/infrastructure to maintain, and the critical employee mass to justify
them.  Undeniably, Global HRMS (Human Resource Management Systems) and HCM
(Human Capital Management, a.k.a. Talent Management) were the providence of
          large enterprises.

Today, “global” has a different meaning.  Today’s player is often a midsize
company that became global through merger, alliance, or organic growth.
Frequently, it’s a cash-conscious company whose concentration remains in one
country but whose footprint now includes facilities in multiple countries.
While today’s global may look different, its HR
information/management/development needs are just as significant.  Until
Sapien, the midsize global marketplace lacked an HR champion.
In 2005, Sapien revolutionized HR software by creating the first truly global
ASP…a one-system/one-world solution for midsize multinationals.  Unlike
installed options that required country-by-country systems, Sapien’s single-
source solution combined HRMS and HCM on one on-demand global platform to
insure data integrity/transferability/usability, giving midsize globals (often
with centralized/limited HR staffing) access to functionalities that surpassed
those being provided to their larger counterparts, in a better, more
          affordable manner.

In 2007, Sapien enhanced its product with Unicode and double-byte character
sets (required for Russian, Mandarin, Arabic, etc.), enabling it to
accommodate every global language and currency.  Sapien also created a Human
Resources Augmentation (HRA) service to enable growing globals to outsource
administrative functions for maximum dollar/time efficiency (we’re the only HR
solution to offer Global Benefits Administration).  And, Sapien added 24/6 US-
based customer support to service its growing international clients.
          Results:
          • Sapien empowered new globals to move beyond spreadsheets and
disparate, country-specific HR systems, enabling them to take a global HR
          perspective.
          • Sapien enabled clients to manage their worldwide employee base
seamlessly, regardless of language, security protocols or currency.
          • Sapien’s innovations attracted new clients including InfoPrint
(IBM/Ricoh), Sabic (GE Plastics), Dubai Aerospace and others.
          • Sapien revenues grew 734% vs. 2006.
          Distinctive and innovative, Sapien:
          1.           Is a SaaS internet-based service, requiring minimal or zero IT
          involvement (reducing costs/infrastructure constraints).
          2.           Has no upfront purchase costs.  Rather, usage fees increase
proportionate to corporate growth, allowing companies to pay for services as
          they need/can afford them.
          3.           Embeds the full suite of HCM modules in its software, allowing almost
instantaneous addition of services as businesses grow/needs change.
          4.           Can link with any/multiple payroll, benefits or databases, providing
          integration anywhere on the globe.
          5.           Is the only single-tenant on-demand HR solution.  Unlike others that
co-mingle multiple client data on one server (multi-tenant), Sapien creates a
virtual single server for each business, insuring data privacy and security
(critical to meet country security rules, Safe Harbor data transfer
regulations, etc.), and allowing for individual modification/configuration of
          applications.
          6.           Is often priced 30% or more below competitive on-demand solutions.

   2. List hyperlinks to any online news stories, press releases, or other documents that support the claims made in the section above. IMPORTANT: Begin each link with http://, and enclose each link in square brackets; for example, [http://www.youraddress.com]:

   3. Provide a brief (up to 100 words) biography about the leader of this nominated company:

Richard R. "Rick" Roscitt is Chairman of Sapien Software.  A seasoned
executive with over 30 years of management experience in all facets of large
and small, public and private corporate governance. Rick has led large "brick
and mortar" operations, Internet based startup operations as well as corporate
turn-around situations, with equal success. Former positions include President
of AT&T Solutions, CEO ADC Solutions, and President and COO of MCI. Rick
received a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Cum Laude) from Stevens Institute
of Technology and earned an MBA in Management from the Sloan School of
          Management at MIT.
