Accelerating global revenues with high-quality, high-throughput knowledge- based translation
In today’s global marketplace, brand consistency and time-to-market are critical to the success of all companies. Additionally, the way to grow revenues and build customer relationships in different countries is to speak to customers in their own language. To achieve this across global markets, companies have to deliver increasing volumes of content in local languages. This presents enormous challenges to companies faced with an exponential increase in their language requirements. The traditional approach to enabling translation is to use a range of diverse human translation vendors across different geographies, resulting in un-coordinated and inconsistent translation processes.
SDL Knowledge-based Translation System (SDL KbT System) delivers a proven breakthrough solution already used in organizations such as HP, Microsoft, Best-Western, The Chrylser Group, CNH and RS-Components. It provides high quality translations, accelerated time-to-market and reduced total cost by combining automated translation systems with human translation skills. This can deliver content into markets on average 40% faster and at up to 40% of the traditional cost.
With the increasing pressure for global organizations to increase the efficiency and reduce the costs of communicating with global audiences, companies are looking at automated translation to accelerate the delivery of high volumes of content, as well as to reduce the cost of translation. Current automated translation technology on its own however, does not produce the standard of content required for published documents. SDL developed its SDL Knowledge-based Translation System, which combines automated translation together with other powerful translation technologies, with human translation skills, to provide customers with publishable-quality content.
2006 saw a growth in customers using the solution. It is breaking records for translation efficiency and enables organizations to drive revenues around the globe. Companies such as HP, CA, Microsoft and RS Components all started to use the technology in 2006.
In January 2006, one of the systems' earlier customers, CNH was given the “Best International Deployment Award for Global Knowledge Management”, which was dependant on SDL KbT System.
RS Components supplies electronic and electrical components and equipment to industry, commercial, educational and research establishments. The products are offered online and in multi-volume printed catalogues with a source text volume of over 1 million words. SDL KbT System is used to cost effectively localize these large volumes of highly technical content.
“SDL Knowledge-based Translation System has provided us with a 25% improvement in productivity, as well as a reduction in costs of 27%,” says Rob Fifield, Head of Media Production at RS Components. “It meets our tight deadlines and provides us with high-quality multilingual content, which enables us to support our new business strategy.”
David Kong, President and CEO of Best Western, an SDL KbT System customer says, “The completion of our globalization project is an important step forward in serving the needs of our more than five million international travel guests who stay with us each year. The ability for our customers to learn about properties or book a reservation in their native language is an absolute necessity for our continued global expansion and growth.”
