Nomination Sub Category: Best Satellite Office or Facility

Nomination Title: IAC Spain Facility

   1. Tell the story about what this nominated office, plant or agency achieved in the past year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

International Armoring Corporation (IAC), from its Ogden, Utah worldwide
headquarters, is the hub to 12 manufacturing/service facilities worldwide (see
link 1). IAC contributes to the global community by exporting most of its
armored vehicles abroad, installing armor to vehicles overseas, marketing its
superior products to many countries, and providing service to armored vehicles
in any part of the world (see link 2).

It is one challenge to build an armored vehicle in the United States and ship it overseas, it is quite another challenge to build and sell such a customized and important product overseas.  With foreign competition increasing, IAC began
placing manufacturing facilities in foreign countries as well as partnering
with large automakers.  This required significant financial investments in
economically unstable countries with unique laws and business practices. IAC
answered the challenge by placing an installation facility in
southern Spain.  All components are designed and prepared in the Ogden facility
and shipped for installation in the Spain facility.  IAC Spain follows a
standardized set of procedures, which has proven successful in achieving the
desired efficiency and finished quality of work.  [NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION.]  The IAC Spain
facility, managed by bilingual employees sent from the U.S., has produced jobs
for over 35 people in a region of the world that currently struggles with high
          unemployment percentages.

[NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION.]  Growth is expected to triple in the Spain
facility over the next year.  Sales are increasing from IAC’s primary customer
as well as the additional clients who now desire their vehicles be produced
closer to their final destination.  The increase in orders for Spain has
resulted in significant cost savings to both IAC and the client.  In 2005 IAC
Spain armored 8% of IAC’s total vehicle production whereas that ratio more than
doubled in 2006 to 19% of IAC’s vehicle production worldwide.

In 2006 IAC was recognized with many prestigious awards including: 2006 "Best
of State" awards in International Business and Manufacturing, 2006 Ernst and
Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year", 2006 High Tech 20 Winner (see link 3), and
2006 U.S. Government Sub-contractor “Small Business of the Year” Award (see
link 4).  The latter of the 2006 awards was decided as a direct result of IAC’s
ability to excel in contract performance for armored vehicles from the IAC
Spain facility.  The “Small Business of the Year” award was the most
significant in IAC’s history because it came directly from IAC’s client without
a nomination process.  The recognitions received in 2006 continue to solidify
IAC's position as the premier supplier of armored passenger vehicles to
governments and private entities worldwide (see links 5-8).
