In 2005/06 The University of Nottingham http://www.nottingham.ac.uk became the first in the world to open a new, fully-equipped foreign campus inside China - the world's fastest-growing economy and most rapidly modernising nation.
It is now exporting a distinctive and specially-devised brand of British academic culture, learning and teaching methods to the People's Republic. Such
a product, offered without restriction, was unthinkable in recent history.

as its Chancellor in 2001, was the first university to take advantage of new Chinese Government legislation. This allowed foreign-run institutions to
become established inside China. It followed the country's entry into the World Trade Organisation.
The Nottingham-China campus, in the port city of Ningbo, Zheijang Province, has 1000 students, which is rising to 4000 by 2008. British and international teachers provide UK awarded and quality assured degree courses, taught in English. Professor Sir Colin Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, has a strong commitment to world changing research and to a strategy of dynamic internationalisation. His dedication to building a worldwide role for Nottingham has resulted in the development of two overseas campuses, and the award of two Nobel Prizes for the institution since 2003. Last year the organisation he leads rose 73 places in the THES World University rankings, entering the Top 100. It has become one of Britain's most popular choices for both home and overseas students.
