Astelit was established in the end of January 2005 as the company operating the new mobile communications brand on the Ukrainian market. It's a joint

venture of the leading GSM operator of Turkey - Turkcell - and local Ukrainian Holding - SCM. Ukrainian market is highly competitive and Astelit was entering as the 5th mobile services operator, but less than in a year it became the 3d. Within the year the new mobile operator life:) was launched. The GSM network was built - by the end of the year 2005 2700 base stations were built and the operator covered all cities with population in excess of 100 000 and more than 12 000 settlements as well as all major roads of Ukraine. This constitutes 70% of the population of the country. In 8 months of work the operator attracted 1 million subscribers and by the end of 2005 there were already 2,46 million subscribers. In Q3 Astelit was named the fastest growing operator in terms of connections in the world by Wireless Intelligence (GSM Association). The operator was the first on the market to introduce EDGE and has the widest EDGE coverage in Ukraine. Making a focus on innovations, Astelit is the market leader in terms of value added services and out of more than 120 services offered by the operator 42 are totally unique for the market. In the end of 2005 the loan negotiation process started and in the begining of 2006 Astelit announced receiving the biggest private loan in the history of Ukraine which totalls 540 mln. USD. It was endorsed by the leading international finance institutions.

Ahmet Tanyu, Astelit, CEO

Mr. Tanyu headed life:) team in 2004. Before moving to Ukraine Mr. Tanyu worked as CEO of Geocell - leading GSM operator of Georgia. Before that he has been working in the investment business in Turkey. For 17 years he has been developing new businesses all over the world in Koc Holding. Mr. Tanyu left Koc Holding on the position of its CEO because he longed for further development and new experience. Mr. Tanyu has big experience of new businesses developement in CIS, Eastern Europe and Nothern Africa. Mr. Tanyu graduated from Technical University of Istambul (The Bosphor University).
