The 'Living With HIV/AIDS' (LWHA) Team has successfully demonstrated its commitment for meaningful, results oriented engagement with staff and a wide cross section of partners in meeting the objectives of the LWHA programme. Our partners include the Ministry of Health, Malaysian AIDS Council, international student body AIESEC and homes sheltering HIV/AIDS mothers and children - Rumah Wake and Rumah Solehah.

In 2005, close to 100% of all staff in Standard Chartered Malaysia have been trained on LWHA.Standard Chartered continues to be amongst very few corporations, if not the only corporation in Malaysia, that has led the way in incorporating LWHA as part of its induction programme for new joiners and an e-learning progarmme on HIV/AIDS for all staff.

In May 2005, Standard Chartered became a leading example of an organization that practice what it preaches in Malaysia with the roll out of the HIV/AIDS Policy. This policy effectively prevents discrimination or prejudice at the workplace for Standard Chartered staff in dealing with HIV/AIDS. It extensively covers HIV Testing, Screening & Confidentiality, Harassment & Discrimination, Sick Leave and Absence through HIV/AIDS Illness, Redeployment and Alternative Employment of HIV/AIDS Employee, Mother to Child Transmission and Anti-Retroviral Therapy.

A key highlight of our engagement with the Malaysian AIDS Council was the "Riding for Life' - bicycle race held in 2003 and 2005 which raised a total

of RM350,000.00 - whilst expanding HIV/AIDS awareness in small towns and rural areas along the route of the race. The outreach programme for HIV/AIDS in the small towns and rural areas during the race reached over 700 people.

AIESEC is the largest international student organization comprising over 1 million members in 87 countries - providing an excellent platform to enhance

the international responsiveness of LWHA from Malaysia to the world.

Malaysian HIV Champions trained 30 AIESEC Malaysian members including 6 international students from UK, USA, Denmark,Czech Republic and India. They in turn trained over 3,000 students from six public universities in Malaysia in 2003.

In 2005, Malaysian HIV Champions trained 42 AIESEC Malaysian members and 10 international students from UK, Scotland, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Czech Republic, Japan and the Philippines. The group has now trained a further 5,000 students in Malaysia.

Standard Chartered Bank's engagement with Rumah Wake and Rumah Solehah - two homes which provide shelter and care for HIV mothers and children not only involved our annual sponsorship for rent and provisions. Our level of engagement include weekly activities between our staff and the children such as reading, Quran recital, tuition and picnics as well as home maintenance activities such as gardening, cleaning and painting. A team of volunteers from the Bank are currently training the residents and children of these homes on the use of computers which the Bank contributed.

For effective advocacy on HIV/AIDS, Standard Chartered Bank was the only corporation in Malaysia to receive the prestigious Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Award by the Malaysian AIDS Foundation in 2004. In 2005 and 2006, the bank was selected to win the Silver Quill Award by the International Association of Business Communicators for successfully leading private sector intervention on HIV/AIDS.

In November 2005, UNICEF Malaysia awarded Standard Chartered Bank the Advanced Humanity Corporate Award for its commitment to and effective implementation of its HIV/AIDS programme.
