Nomination Title: Elisabeth Vassallucci, VP Corporate Communications, Alcan Inc.
1. Tell the story about what this nominee achieved in the past year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:
In 2004, Alcan acquired French competitor Pechiney, increasing its workforce from 50,000 to 88,000 people, then spun off most of its rolled products businesses. In this turbulent year, Elisabeth developed and implemented the communication strategy for the integration of Pechiney, and the spin-off. She also started to strategically reposition "the new Alcan" with all stakeholders, working closely with the four business groups forming Alcan.
In addition to the management of numerous ongoing projects and the strenuous lay-off 10 of 15 members of the ex-Pechiney communications team that she accomplished in a very compassionate way, relocating most of them, she spearheaded: • the implementation of the 3rd Global Survey for 88,000 employees, in 19 languages, • the creation of the Alcan Sustainability Prize, a US$1 million award to a not-for-profit organization, • the production of two strategic position papers, the "Water Paper" and the "China Paper", • and the combination of communications best practices from both Alcan and Pechiney.
She also led a synergy taskforce to bring US$2 million "to the table".
The following testimonials from her colleagues illustrate Elisabeth's accomplishments:

"Elisabeth played a key role in the Pechiney integration by helping building ownership of Alcan values and management tools, making people feel part of a new family. Her expertise and strong personality have made her a reference within Alcan." Christel Bories President and CEO Alcan Packaging
