Company: J&V Resguardo SAC
Company Description: J&V Resguardo is a Security Services company. Founded in 1989 by our Director, Javier Calvo Pérez. Now J&V Resguardo has 2,030 employees in 12 cities of the country.
Nomination Category: Team Awards Categories
Nomination Sub Category: Best Human Resources Team

Nomination Title: “Committed People”

Tell the story about what this nominated team achieved in the past year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Peru is an undeveloped country in which 30% of the people are poor, 12% are
illiterate, and there are many unregistered businesses that compete without
paying taxes and without offering social security to their employees and offering
lower prices than the market average.

The challenge for the proper enterprises would be: How can we grow our business,
increase sales and customer loyalty with a low remuneration labor-
force, without training and with a lot of discouragement due to the social economic
problems?

We started to change our company 4 years ago with our Human Resources
Program “Leaderman," consisting of training, motivating and developing our
employees, to increase their welfare and commitment to the company, and thus
benefit our customers and society.

We think the employees are individuals with ambitions; they only need the
opportunity to show their capabilities and self improvement.  Our 2,000 employees
could realize that their Chief Executive Officer knows each of them by their names,
how many children they have, their wife’s name, their personal qualities and
talents.

Through these years, all the employees have been encouraged with the following
programs:

(1) Professional Development: this would increase the quality of work across the
company, by offering professional security courses according to each level.
(2) Personal Development: this would increase the value of each employee.
For this purpose we have  computer courses as a tool to improve their reports,
creating an added value (80% of employees didn’t know how to use a
computer), basic driving lessons (70% didn’t have a driver’s license) and English
courses to wait on our foreign customers.
(3) Social Familiar Development: So that each employee could feel the importance
of the family in the company.  We do some craft hand courses for the wives’
employees so they can help with the familiar economy. We also organize security
children courses, trips with their families, etc.
(4)  Encouragement Program: We have a meeting twice a month with all the
persons in the company  in which we give awards and recognition to the best
employees, giving them appliances, computers, scholarships, etc .We also have
breakfasts with them and a program called “Knowing each other better."
(5)  Social Support Program: We give support to the development of the
handicapped by giving them jobs.  We also contribute with orphanages and
centers for kids with disabilities. This gives pride to our employees and to the
persons that we help.

Great Results:  165% in sales increase, 90% customer loyalty, rotation level
less than 2% comparing with the 25% of the average market, 60% of our people
know how to use a computer and our people created the “Leaderman” software.
We were chosen as “The Best Enterprise of the year 2002” by the Peruvian
Enterprise of the Year Institute.  Our greatest achievement was the prize of the
contest organized by “The Great Place to Work Institute of Peru” with 98% of our
personnel approval and an award to the Best Practice of Human Resources given
by “Resource” (Recruitment by Objective and the Peruvian British chamber of
Commerce).
