Nomination Title: Dell Boomi AtomSphere

1. Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

Dell Boomi is an integration platform as a service provider (iPaaS), which lets users build, deploy and manage application integration in any combination of cloud to cloud, cloud to on-premises, on-premises to on-premises or EDI.

Dell Boomi’s platform features a network of hundreds of interconnected applications and a community of experts contributing new connectors. Visual integration replaces the need for coding knowledge, while the end-to-end service offers complete end-user control of integrations.

Dell Boomi AtomSphere, a pure SaaS solution, eliminates the need for hardware or software installation and maintenance, while providing automatic upgrades, usage-based pricing, a multi-tenant architecture and global accessibility via the internet. AtomSphere uses Dell Boomi’s patented Atom technology, which is a lightweight, runtime engine. The AtomSphere platform provides enterprise-grade security for a fraction of the cost of integration strategies relying on traditional middleware.

By creating a far faster and less expensive—yet highly secure—way for companies to move to the cloud, Dell Boomi is helping companies dramatically accelerate cloud adoption and increase their agility. Companies report that they are able to accomplish integrations of critical business processes in days or weeks instead of month or years, leading to enormous cost and competitive benefits.

One example of Dell Boomi AtomSphere’s end user value can be found in the case study of Novartis. The company was looking to replace two on-premises middleware solutions that were both expensive and complicated to maintain. Their current technology did not offer the required flexibility needed and Novartis sought a replacement to give the company greater agility and a lower total cost of ownership. Shifting to Dell Boomi AtomSphere helped to reduce development effort and delivered significant cost savings, which strengthened the business case for extending its use to a range of integration scenarios.

The results:
• Deployed twice the integrations in one sixth of the time
• Cut operating expenditures by 30 percent
• Reduced server capacity requirements by 50 percent

Since January 1, 2013, AtomSphere has expanded its capabilities to include API management. With this addition AtomSphere now has the ability to create, monitor, measure, secure, throttle and scale published APIs. This allows customers the necessary visibility and control to create, manage and administer APIs and web services as they grow and scale out. Dell Boomi’s AtomSphere now supports thirty times more integration processes than the nearest competitor.

In February 2014, AtomSphere exceeded more than 450 million integration processes per month (trust.boomi.com). This enables enterprises of any size to have the flexibility and scalability for all of their integration deployments.

In September 2013, the key technology in Dell Boomi’s AtomSphere was awarded a U.S. patent. The patent focuses on the system and method by which:

• Customers using Dell Boomi AtomSphere’s web-based graphical user interface can drag and drop integration components including connectors, maps, document property elements and start and end points, to visually model an integration process between applications.
• Customers using Dell Boomi Atom’s technology can automatically create a customized, executable integration application to deploy in the cloud or behind an enterprise’s firewall.
