Nomination Title: Bitcasa

1. Tell the story about this nominated product or service (up to 525 words). Describe its function, features, benefits, and performance to date:

Since coming out of beta in March 2013, Bitcasa has made significant product enhancements and seen tremendous growth with users worldwide. To date, Bitcasa currently stores and manages more than 35 petabytes of user files. Bitcasa’s goal is simple, to act as a home for all digital belongings, accessible everywhere. Additionally, Bitcasa believes that the data you store is yours alone, and only you should have control over what happens to it. That’s why Bitcasa has architected its system with privacy at the core, with client-side encryption that prevents any employees from having access to the files stored. Each product update was pivotal in meeting the need of existing users as well as the “anywhere consumer.” The “anywhere consumer” demands capabilities beyond the traditional hard drive, including the ability to connect, share and access content easily on any device without worrying about storage complaints.

Bitcasa rolled out updates to its mobile application in July 2013; the new mobile experience simplifies content access and sharing for those always on the go. In addition, this 2.0 release included localization in 10 new languages and currencies to support Bitcasa’s fast growing international customer base. This was quickly followed by the launch of Bitcasa in Asia.

In September 2013, Bitcasa entered its next stage of growth and appointed seasoned veteran in the consumer technology space, Brian Taptich as Chief Executive Officer of Bitcasa. Under Taptich’s leadership, Bitcasa raised $11 million to fund the development of new usability features that allow consumers and small businesses to do more with their digital belongings. Soon after, Bitcasa partnered with Samsung and launched its Developer Program with the release of the Bitcasa Secure Storage API. The API gives mobile and desktop apps an easy-to-use, full-featured and device-independent storage layer.

Prioritizing its customer demands, Bitcasa introduced the availability of Linux in December 2013. The new headless client for Linux offers increased versatility and accessibility, including the ability to build new apps on top of the Linux client, install on any device to extend storage capacity and power your FTP server or backup NAS devices. This release coincided with a new, enhanced Web app, featuring the release of a slick new design and new features enabling users to safely store, find, stream and share any movie, music or file.

Bitcasa is continuing to evolve its platform to maximize the personal usefulness of digital belongings. With flexible pricing plans, Bitcasa’s storage solutions are infinitely useful, infinitely accessible, infinitely private and infinitely affordable.
