Nomination Title: Phil Fernandez, President and CEO

Tell the story about what this nominee achieved since January 1 2012 (up to 525 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Phil Fernandez is the President and CEO of Marketo, and a Silicon Valley veteran with thirty years of experience building and managing breakout technology companies. With Fernandez at the helm, Marketo challenges age-old sales wisdom to produce marketing automation software that cuts through clutter and generates a simple, stripped-down selling process right from the start of the prospect stage.

Beyond product innovation, Fernandez is helping Marketo redefine the marketing profession by creating support systems like The Marketing Nation and LauchPoint. The Marketing Nation enables practitioners to share marketing best practices and programs on a single marketing platform. It grants members access to a complete ecosystem of complementary offerings, partnerships and services in LaunchPoint designed to accelerate the practice of marketing across the globe with a powerful shared vision.

In addition to securing $100 million in funding to date, Fernandez has kept Marketo on a strong trajectory of exceptional customer success, doubling its customer count from 2011 to kick off 2012 with 1,578 customers. The trend continues into 2013 as Marketo is contracted with over 2,000 customers.

Fernandez’s industry expertise has earned numerous accolades and opportunities outside of Marketo. He has been named to Sales Lead Management Association’s list of “50 Most Influential People in Sales Lead Management” in 2010 and 2011.
His book, Revenue Disruption, is required reading for marketers adjusting to a world in which power has forever shifted from seller to buyer. In it, he develops processes to enhance productivity by adopting Revenue Performance Management, a data-driven strategy that uses marketing automation technology to align the sales and marketing departments within an organization, and focus them on the company’s primary objective: generating more revenue.
